With their hands in the worlds of roots inflected folk and politics driven punk rock, band Audio-Rocketry will bring an eclectic mix of sounds to the Rumrunner stage.
After moving to Edmonton for university, member Joe Vickers started playing guitar at train stops and on White Avenue. The band—which started up in 2005—is driven by the fusion of many
different influences, according to Vickers.
The band is set to bring both the sounds of punk rock music to the stage in a different way. With members on harmonica, spoons, banjos and the tambourine, their red-hot soup of sounds will reflect their energy driven music.
Vickers—who plays guitar, harmonica and stomps in the group—spoke about the aspect of politics and protest in the background of punk rock music.
"Coming from a strong punk rock background, there is always that sense of politics that I think to some extent is inherit in folk and punk rock music," he said. "It has that really strong humanitarian approach."
For their upcoming tour, Audio-Rocketry is promoting a new album called Eastward and Onward, based on a cross Canada tour Vickers completed in true
medieval troubadour mentality.
Without a vehicle, Vickers and a friend traveled by train, bus and hitchhiked rides to each gig. He said the
stress added to the sense of uncertainty and adventure. Audio-Rocketry steps
on the Rumrunner stage
the evening of June 29.
