Rodeo ridin' into town 0
Curt Derbyshire photo A bounty of cowgirls rode through downtown Blairmore on April 13 for the annual Kananaskis Pro Rodeo Badge Ride. Final preparations are underway to celebrate 30 years of rodeo set for April 27 through 29.
Celebrating 30 years, some of the best athletes from North America, as well as some of our local rodeo stars, will be on hand at the Crowsnest Sports Complex for three days of pro rodeo.
The Kananaskis Pro Rodeo begins on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. with the first rodeo performance.
Dust off your cowboy boots because a dance follows on Friday night at the Coleman Legion from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday morning begins with a free pancake breakfast, hosted by the Coleman Lions at 9 a.m.
A fun rodeo is also on tap at 9 a.m. for juniors (age 15 and under) and seniors (age 16 and over).
Tentative events scheduled are barrel racing, poles, goat tying, steer daubing, stake race (figure eight), and team roping.
Entry fees are $10 per event and $20 for team roping. Entries are limited to 30 and no late entries are permitted, so don't wait.
Two-time winner of Canadian Entertainer of the Year award, clown Dennis Halstead will be on hand to entertain and steer those bulls away from the good guys!
Kananaskis Pro Rodeo strives to provide visitors with some extra entertainment and genuine western culture and this year is no exception. In addition to the pro riders, during the performances, folks will also get a chance to experience boys' steer riding, a wild pony race, mutton busting and the always popular lady trick riders.
On April 28, the rodeo events will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a cabaret featuring a sure-fire performance by Trevor Panczak & Roughstock. This band is sure to get you out on that dance floor! Come test your cowboy skills and ride the mechanical bull up and running from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Doors to the cabaret open at 8 p.m. Purchase an advance ticket and receive one free drink. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from KRA members.
The following day's rodeo finale gets underway at 2 p.m.
