Automotive repair shop revs up 0
Joni MacFarlane photo The first hurdle for a new automotive and motorcycle repair shop has been passed for the current Triple S site on Main Street, Blairmore. A development permit was approved and owner, Dave Taggart, hopes to be up and running by summer.
Not one to go down defeated, Dave Taggart continued with his search to find a suitable location for his dream business and recently received approval of a development permit.
The new site, at 11334 20 Avenue, Blairmore, which currently houses Triple S, was approved by the Subdivision and Development Authority on the condition that drawings be submitted to their satisfaction.
According to municipal Development Officer, Ryan Dyck, Taggart was asked for "a nominal amount of architectural articulation, using materials differentiating from the metal siding, to denote the entrance of the building, and to provide some visual interest".
The development permit application was approved and possession of the property is expected by mid-April.
Unfortunately, said Taggart, he will most likely be taking out the gas tanks. He said he would've liked to keep the pumps for nostalgic reasons but the lending restrictions regarding environmental liabilities are prohibitive.
Late last year, Taggart was the subject of a controversial appeal by the municipality after the Subdivision and Development Authority had approved his application for a shop to be located east of the Greenhill Hotel.
Taggart lost the appeal and was encouraged to seek another location.
Today, his dream edges a little closer to becoming a reality.
